Soliloquy/Marsh Sound Design...a premiere example of good sound
5/01/02 — SGHT's CES 2002 show coverage points at our Soliloquy/Marsh Sound Design exhibit in the Alexis Park as a premiere example
of good sound
“...In the Soliloquy room I found
another special surround setup, demoted to stereo only after their preamp-processor bit the dust. I could only guess what, driven by
Marsh electronics and power-conditioned by Monster products, Soliloquy's new C6 center-channel ($3500) and very interesting R6 surrrounds
($3000/pair) might have sounded like - something, I hope, like the company's wonderful-sounding new 6.5 ($6400/pair). Even without a
center speaker, the 6.5s had no trouble chiseling out a very solid center image. With four drivers in what I'd call a tripolar configuration,
the silent R6 surrounds looked tailored for wall placement. I bring a good mix of music with me, not all of it audiophile-approved. It's shocking
to hear how many systems that sing with well-recorded boutique material simply fall apart when confronted with 90% of the dreck we actually
enjoy listening to. I threw on one of my favorite traveling CDs, Bruce Hornsby's Hot House. The Soliloquys just belted it out, imbuing this
modern and slighlty compressed pop recording with a sense of life that was missing from so many other rooms...”
